Trump’s supposed aim largely dead on arrival:

No Incentive for Russia – Moscow sees no strategic reward in leaving China or BRICS.

Deep Mistrust of the West – Decades of perceived betrayal have hardened Russia’s belief that Western “partnership” is a trap.

China Fills the Gaps – Beijing provides Russia with markets, technology, diplomatic cover, and sanctions relief in ways Washington can’t match without huge political cost.

Long-Term Strategic Shift – Russia’s foreign policy since at least 2014 has been built on rejecting Western legitimacy and anchoring itself in a multipolar, anti-U.S. bloc.

In other words, even if Trump wanted to pry Russia away from China, he’d be starting from a position where the Kremlin doesn’t want to be pried.

North Korea and Iran are not failed states. Trump has little leverage to use with Putin. The Russian economy is thriving and he is gaining territory daily.

Putin may give Trump some sort of save face “win” but he holds all the cards.
