The Chernobyl nuclear power plant had four operational RBMK-1000 reactors, each capable of producing 1,000 megawatts (MW) of electric power (3,200 MW of thermal power). Only one was disabled in the events of 26 April, 1986; two more reactors were partially completed, No. 5 and 6, but that was stopped after the accident.
