Regarding shell production: Yikes. Its not just a statement on how manufacturing, in general, has declined in the US; in some ways it reflects a societal change in the difficulty of finding people who wish to work in "skilled labor", as its seen as intellectually/societally inferior working in "rough conditions". Those folks used to be held up as the backbone of our society.
