Going after the militias is not a simple proposition. It would require a commitment of American forces to the area. It would almost certainly involve considerable collateral damage to civilians. I don't think you understand the situation in Gaza. Hamas is not just a few terrorists. It is virtually the enitire three million residents of Gaza. Young, old, men, women, certainly all the teenagers and tweens.
Not to mention you lost in Iraq, you lost in Afghanistan, you lost in Libya, you lost in Somalia. And those people didn't want you to come in. Many of the dissident groups there sided with you but you still lost.
In Gaza, they *all* want you to come in especially if you come in the way you describe. They dream of you coming in. Because they want to kill you in as dramatic way as possible. Every one of you and they consider it an honor, to be rewarded in heaven, if they die trying.
You wouldn't even get your team across the border before you got killed by the thousands of missiles flying back and forth. Even if you made it in to range and they start shooting at you from a third floor window of an active hospital...oh wait, now they've moved to the second floor, oh wait, now they've taken the tunnel across to the school and you can see the little kids there running ammunition for them, as your *few* terrorists are lobbing mortars at you. Tell me....what the hell are your rangers going to do then, call in the A-tens to drop bombs on the active hospital and the school children?
When the *few* terrorists line up at the soup kitchen at the U.N. funded and operated facility so they can take a break and then go back to killing you, is your light infantry going to use artillery to blow up the food source with the women and children lined up because you have cut off all other sources of food and water?
The Israeli army has a couple of hundred thoudand troops lined up at the border. Yet they are hesitating to go in. What is that you know about about fighting in the environment in Gaza, that they don't know despite having tried every approach possible in the last few decades?
