The first reports of the Slovak shooter's activities and membership in various groups seems contradictory and confusing. Maybe he was a troubled individual and influenced by a foreign intelligence service to target Fico (pronounced "Fit-so"). In any case, in this part of Europe there is very polarizing, manipulative and hateful rhetoric against "illiberal democratic-backsliding authoritarian xenophobic homophobic racist populists", as some like Fico and Orban have been labelled. That creates a social environment where extreme acts like this are more likely.
Conflicted to say the least. Yesterday I saw statements from the Pro-Russian paramilitary org denying he had any affiliation with them ever; time will tell. Somehow "radicalized uber-liberal" doesn't seem to comport with "pro-Russian " values...something smells fishy. The "Progressive Slovakia" opposition party is known for being anti-Russia, pro-NATO/USA/EU/UK, pro-LGBT, and pro-neo-liberal capitalism. Undoubtedly many Western governments and oligarchs have funded the growth of this particular political party and its militant supporters.
It is perhaps just that kind of confused individual who might be somehow influenced by an intelligence agency to do the deed, or it could be he simply acted on his own.

Here is part of his statement after his arrest
They'll check his phone, but I guess the GUR uses burners now.
